Endodontology deals with dental pulp (dental nerve) diseases. They derive from infections and irritations that lead to the inflammation of the pulp. The main cause are dental lesions (cavities) used by bacteria to reach the inside of the teeth.

The therapy for this consists of treating the canals where the nerve is located.  In other words, the damaged tissue (the nerve) is removed by means of a chemical and manual cleaning and then the canal is sealed. After successful root canals, placing a crown over the tooth is recommended.

This treatment is a final attempt to hold the tooth in place for many more years.
